I wish I could. But how can I embrace it when the entire motivation and process for changing the flag was a deep despisement for me, my state, and my heritage as a Minnesotan? The whole thing is a big middle finger to people like me.
If you've decided you're the victim of some invisible force trying to ruin your heritage then I guess that's that. But, hopefully, someday you can fly the new flag with pride. I'll welcome you with open arms. Because it's our flag. I honestly could not care less how it came to be. It was sorely needed. It finally happened. Let's run with it.
Imaginary? The DFL and the redesign comissioners were saying all of this stuff out loud. I'm not just making it up.
You can choose not to care, but that doesn't mean it isn't a real thing. And again, if they had given us this new flag and left the state seal alone, I'd be pretty happy. The fact that they did both is proof that they just don't like America or Minnesota very much.
